Deobra Delone Redden has spoken out ahead of being sentenced for his shocking attack on Mary Kay Holthus, a Las Vegas judge, in January.
According to The Sun, Redden appeared in court for his sentencing for the viral attack on Tuesday, December 10. Per the outlet, the 31-year-old pled guilty to six out of seven charges. He reportedly pled not guilty “by reason of insanity to attempted murder of a victim 60 years of age or older.”
Ahead of his sentencing, Redden shared a statement with Judge Susan Johnson.
“…I’ve always had problems since I was a little kid… I know that I’m not a bad person, and I… believe that you all know I’m not a bad person. I’m not an evil person,” Redden said. “When I came to court on January 3, 2024, I was listening to music, I was in a good mood… I see spirits. I hear voices. I’ve been going through this for over a decade now, and I just feel attacked…”
Ultimately, Redden explained that he was “hearing voices” during his January court appearance and “saw nothing but red.”
As The Shade Room previously reported, on January 3, Judge Holthus was preparing to sentence Redden at the Clark County District Court in Nevada, Las Vegas. He was reportedly there for an attempted battery offense.
During the proceedings, Redden and his counsel reportedly asked the judge to hand him a lighter sentence. At the time, he noted that despite his criminal history, he had progressed with his life and mental well-being.
However, his plea to Judge Holthus appeared to be to no avail.
“I appreciate that, but I think it’s time that he get a taste of something else because I just can’t with that history,” she reportedly said.
At that point, Redden leaped toward the judge, landing on top of her as she sat behind her podium.
In February, Redden was reportedly indicted for attempted murder following the attack, per The Shade Room. Additionally, his charges included battery, intimidating a public officer with threat of force, extortion, and “disregarding the safety of a person resulting in substantial bodily harm.”
On December 10, Judge Johnson ultimately sentenced Redden to 26-65 years in prison. Additionally, Redden was ordered to pay Judge Holthus $61,318.41 in restitution.
“No doubt… you knew the difference between right and wrong,” Judge Johnson reportedly told Redden during the sentencing.
