Multiple families and travelers are claiming their dream vacations, weddings, and birthday trips quickly turned into nightmares after they booked excursions through Destiny Travel NY. The families believe the company and its owner, Tavia Thomas, stole their money and then canceled their trips without ever booking their flight packages. Furthermore, they alleged they weren’t given refunds.
Tavia Thomas has since denied the claims, and an investigation is underway.
Now, The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is also looking into the matter on ‘TSR Investigates.’
Carter initially spoke with Denise Perez-Horton. She was scheduled to get married overseas in Mexico with a guest list of 80 people. Furthermore, the balance for the trip was expected to be divided among the group. And paid in full 45 days before their departure.
“Final payment comes, and I’m like, ‘Okay, where’s the reservation number?'” Perez-Horton recalled to Carter. “… She’s like, ‘Well, the resort had a child that was electrocuted in the pool… and they have mold and…’ downplaying the resort, and I’m like, ‘What? What is going on?'”
According to Carter, the group’s reservation was relocated to another resort. Despite this apparent resolve, Perez-Horton and her guests allegedly still did not receive their flight confirmations. Then, upon calling the resort, Perez-Horton learned that the business “never” received their booking.
“And I’m just like, ‘Why? Why? Why don’t you have it?” Perez-Horton recalled.
According to Perez-Horton, her and her guests’ money went straight to Thomas’ bank account. To make matters worse, her wedding was also canceled.
“She’s doing this state line to state line, and the crazy thing also is that she’s doing this to only Black people,” Perez-Horton told Carter.
