Brandy Norwood has sparked mixed reactions after she named the actress who she’d cast to play her in a biopic.
According to BET, the singer sat down for a recent interview with A24. During the conversation, Brandy was asked who she’d cast to play her in a biopic or film about her life.
“There’s a few people that come to mind,” she explained. “But off the top of the dome… Halle Bailey.”
During the sitdown, the singer also shared her biggest pet peeve, her favorite childhood TV, and other facts about herself.

According to the outlet, this isn’t the first time Brandy has shared her admiration for Bailey. In 2020, the singer sat down with Billboard and remarked on Bailey being the first Black actress to play Disney princess Ariel in ‘The Little Mermaid.’ To note, Brandy previously made history as being the first Black actress to play Disney princess Cinderella.
“I believe that her staying true to herself is the reason why she’s in a great position to do all of the things that she’s meant to do,” she said of Bailey. “… I just wish her all the best I absolutely love Halle and… I see so much of myself in Halle.”
Meanwhile, social media users have reacted to Brandy’s comments in The Shade Room’s comment section. Some appeared to disagree with the singer’s choice of Bailey, while others posed suggestions of other actresses they could see filling the role.
While Instagram user @oloni added, “Coco jones is right there!!!!”
While Instagram user @mrjerometrammel added, “Ryan Destiny, Normani, Coco Jones & etc. But Halle? No..”
At this time, neither Bailey nor Brandy have reacted to the internet’s discourse. However, in April, Ray J hopped online to bring his sister’s opinion to the public while showing off his new face “tattoos.”
As The Shade Room previously reported, Ray’s new look sparked concerned reactions from social media users. Furthermore, he shared that his sister Brandy was not feeling his appearance.
“My sister hit me and said, ‘Yo, your last post that you posted — like, take that s**t down,'” he recalled, per The Shade Room. “… She said I didn’t look clean. I look dirty… So I took it down. You know what I’m saying?”
Soon after Ray’s comments about Brandy, he revealed that his ink was indeed fake.
