Judge Greg Mathis faces a new lawsuit that seemingly paints him as a hothead! A city worker in Los Angeles is suing Mathis for allegedly threatening his life. According to court records TMZ pulled, the incident happened in July 2023. More than a year later, the city worker named Ricardo Acosta is looking for his get back!
He’s suing for assault and infliction of emotional distress and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Details About Incident Between Judge Mathis & City Worker
Ricardo Acosta claims that he was on shift with the L.A. Department of Water and Power when Greg Mathis confronted him. At the time, the city worker was working in front of the TV judge’s home, and his dump truck was blocking the driveway.
Mathis started going off when he tried to back out of his garage but couldn’t. He allegedly got out of his vehicle and approached the back of the dump truck while popping off on the city worker. In one instance, the TV judge allegedly told Ricardo to “move the f**king truck out of the way.” When Acosta asked Judge Mathis to move from behind the truck for safety reasons, he allegedly went off again. Court docs claim Greg said he didn’t “give a f**k” and challenged the city worker to “run him over and see what happens to him.”
Afterward, Judge Greg Mathis allegedly went inside his home and returned with a gun. While brandishing the weapon, Mathis allegedly threatened to “bust a cap” at Ricardo Acosta. Ultimately, the celeb hopped in his car and pulled off, but not without another “bust a cap” threat. TMZ first reported the incident in July 2023 via law enforcement sources.
Mathis’ Lawyer Reacts To Lawsuit
Meanwhile, Judge Greg Mathis’ legal team appears to be unfazed by the legal filing. His attorney, Anahita Sedaghatfar, called the lawsuit a “last ditch attempt” at financial extortion.
“Mr. Acosta’s recitation of the ‘facts’ simply do not comport with what actually transpired during the incident, which occurred over one year ago,” Sedaghatfar said in a statement to TMZ.
She stated that the report submitted to the Los Angeles Police Department contains “many demonstrable falsities.” Additionally, the lawyer said Judge Greg Mathis feared for his and his family’s statements due to threats Ricardo Acosta and other city workers allegedly made. The reality TV star is also claiming that he felt falsely imprisoned in his home by the dump truck.
“That the LAPD did not even investigate Mr. Acosta’s claims speaks to their lack of merit. Should Mr. Acosta pursue this lawsuit, we will not only vigorously defend the case, we will file cross-claims against Mr. Acosta for his illegal conduct and repeated defamation of my client,” the attorney said.
Judge Greg Mathis has not made any direct statements about the lawsuit. Most recently, he and his wife, Linda Reese, spoke about finding their way back to each other after she filed for divorce.
