Dawn Richard’s Lawsuit Details A “Diddy Party” & Abuse She Witnessed Against Cassie
In court documents obtained by The Shade Room, Dawn Richard disclosed that in November 2009, Combs flew her and Kalenna Harper to his house in New York for an afterparty. For context, in 2009, other Bad Boy Records artists recorded Richard’s compositions. Due to the success of her work, she received an invitation to meet Harper. The two, plus Diddy, then formed a new group: Diddy—Dirty Money.
The star-studded Nov. 2009 event allegedly involved the consumption of numerous illegal substances, per page 13 of the lawsuit. Richard also noted that many women arrived in scant clothing, appeared underage, and were given drugs and alcohol.
Richard continued to explain that many of the women appeared “lethargic and passed out” while Combs and his guests allegedly engaged in sexual acts with them. Dawn added that the Bad Boys Records founder made comments like, “This is a buffet, enjoy yourselves; this is what we do, this is how we party,” as stated on page 14 of the lawsuit. Dawn also alleged that she asked Diddy’s assistant at the time, Capricorn Clark, to leave the party after feeling “shocked and horrified.” However, Ms. Clark allegedly requested 15 minutes to make Dawn’s exit less obvious to Combs.
While recording the first Diddy—Dirty Money album at the producer’s Los Angeles home, Dawn claims she witnessed abuse against Cassie. During one meeting, Richard and Harper allegedly saw him verbally abuse Cassandra Ventura in the kitchen. Additionally, page 12 of the lawsuit states that Combs pushed Cassie against a wall, choked her, and threw a hot pan of eggs at her. As a result, Cassie allegedly fell to the ground in a fetal position before Diddy allegedly dragged her up the stairs.

Richard did not intervene, given Kalenna’s alleged insistence that they stay out of Diddy’s relationship. Ms. Harper even allegedly led Dawn out of the residence. The following day, the producer allegedly demanded his bandmates return and issued them a warning. “I’m giving you an opportunity; if you want to make it, you’ll shut your mouth..if you say anything, there will be consequences,” Combs allegedly said, per lawsuit page 13.
Richard Shares Health Issues While Working With Sean Combs
Furthermore, Dawn Richard’s lawsuit claims that working with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs significantly impacted her health. The songstress reveals on page 10 of the lawsuit that Combs forced her and other Dainty Kane members to rehearse for “36 to 48″ hours straight without any breaks. During those periods, she alleges he remained awake due to drug binges. These rehearsals allegedly caused Richard to lose a significant amount of weight, bringing the 5’4”-tall singer down to approximately 100 pounds.
Combs also frequently had Richard and her Danity Kane bandmates join intense workouts with a personal trainer. On one occasion, while running on the beach, Dawn became so dehydrated that she vomited. Rather than providing her with medical help, MTV Networks’ camera crew filmed the incident. According to page 11 of the filing, Dawn believed this treatment was a normal part of her professional life.
More Info From Dawn Richard’s Lawsuit
Dawn Richard first appeared on Diddy’s 2004 musical competition reality series, ‘Making The Band.’ The singer claims that Combs manipulated her by promising to advance her singing career if she complied with his allegedly twisted demands. In the lawsuit, Dawn describes how Diddy verbally abused female contestants, often referring to them as “fat”, “ugly,” “b****s,” and h**s,” per page 9 of the suit.
One one occasion, when she arrived at his Miami home, Combs allegedly greeted her wearing only underwear. She also recalled an incident where he barged into her dressing room while she was naked and allegedly “touched her breast and butt.” Page Six reports that these occurrences happened multiple times between 2009 and 2011.
DIddy’s Attorney Makes A Statement In Regards To The Lawsuit
On Wednesday, September 11 Diddy’s attorney, Erica Wolff, issued a statement in response to Richard’s lawsuit.
“Mr. Combs is shocked and disappointed by this lawsuit. In an attempt to rewrite history, Dawn Richard has now manufactured a series of false claims all in the hopes of trying to get a pay day, conveniently timed to coincide with her album release and press tour,” the statement explains. “If Ms. Richard had such a negative experience with ‘Making the Band’ and Danity Kane, she would not have chosen to continue working directly with Mr. Combs for Dirty Money, nor would she have returned for the ‘Making the Band’ reboot in 2020 or agreed to be featured on ‘The Love Album’ last year. It’s unfortunate that Ms. Richard has cast their 20-year friendship aside to try and get money from him, but Mr. Combs is confidently standing on truth and looks forward to proving that in court.”
