Melissa Valbrum, a 32-year-old Florida mother, has been charged after being accused of shooting her 15-year-old daughter at a McDonald’s.
According to WESH, Valbrum has been charged with “battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and culpable negligence, inflicting personal injury.” Furthermore, WPLG Local 10 adds that the mother appeared in court on Sunday, November 24, after being arrested on November 23.
She has reportedly been ordered to stay away from all victims in the case. Additionally, Valbrum reportedly left police custody after satisfying her bond, which had been set at $22,000.
Per WESH, the shooting occurred on the evening of Friday, November 22, at a McDonald’s located at 9250 NW 7th Avenue. Furthermore, around 10 p.m., Valbrum allegedly got into a “verbal altercation” with her 15-year-old daughter and her two cousins.
The altercation reportedly continued when the 15-year-old and her cousins made their way outside to get into a Lyft they ordered. At that point, Valbrum allegedly “grabbed a firearm from her car and began banging on the window of the Lyft.” Additionally, the mother allegedly threatened to kill the trio “while pointing the gun in their direction.” Furthermore, the outlet even notes that Valbum assaulted one of the cousins while they were inside the Lyft.
Lastly, at some point during the altercation, Valbrum’s “gun fired off” and struck her 15-year-old daughter in the arm. Per WESH, Valbrum allegedly told authorities that the incident occurred because her gun had fallen from her waistband. However, per USA Today, the Lyft driver reportedly informed police that Valbrum “pointed the gun at him and the passengers in an ‘extremely aggressive’ manner.”
Subsequently, Valbrum’s 15-year-old daughter was reportedly taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
As The Shade Room previously reported, a similar incident occurred in September between a Maryland mother and her 13-year-old daughter. At the time, Talecka Brown was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder.
Furthermore, Brown was accused of shooting her 13-daughter in her upper body and instructing the child to lie to police.
